Police recover body of father who went missing on Huron River with 6-year-old son

Authorities say Justin and Jaxon Oaks were last seen near the area of the Downriver Marina boat launch on March 29. After launching their boat and going fishing on the Huron River, they did not return to their vehicle, which was found parked at the Downriver Marina boat launch with an empty boat trailer attached to it.

Police have recovered the body of a father who went missing on the Huron River with his 6-year-old son last month.

WXYZ news is reporting Monday that Michigan State Police confirmed with the news network that the South Rockwood father’s body was found.

Police have not yet found the body of the boy.

Justin Oaks grew up in Huron Township and was a graduate of Huron High School.

At 9:50 a.m. on March 29,  Justin Oaks, 29, took his son Jaxon fishing on the Huron River between Lake Erie and the I-75 overpass.

A Michigan State Police investigation determined that the last contact with Justin was via text message with a family member at approximately 11:58 a.m. on March 29.

Justin and Jaxon did not return to their vehicle which was found parked at the Downriver Marina boat launch with an empty boat trailer attached to it.

The boat they were in was recovered on April 6.
