  • WHAT…Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 4 inches.
  • WHERE…Shiawassee, Genesee, Lapeer, St. Clair, Livingston, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw and Wayne Counties.
  • WHEN…From 7 AM this morning to 7 PM EST this evening.
  • IMPACTS…Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute.
  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Snow will overspread the region this morning and persist through the afternoon with snowfall rates of one half an inch per hour common by midday with rates near one inch per hour rates possible at times.

Winter weather advisory: ice accumulation possible tonight into Sunday

Southeast Michigan is under a winter weather advisory through 4 a.m. Sunday.

Roadways south of I-94 have a good chance of seeing ice accumulation this evening.

Roads, bridges, sidewalks and walkways could become dangerous this evening.

  • WHAT…Periods of light freezing rain and freezing drizzle expected during the late evening hours, producing a light glaze of ice to less than a tenth of an inch of ice.
  • WHERE…Locations along and south of I-69.
  • WHEN…From 8 PM this evening to 4 AM EST Sunday.
  • IMPACTS…Very slippery sidewalks, roads and bridges are possible.
  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Areas along and south of I-94 stand the best chance of seeing measurable ice accumulation, but still under a tenth of an inch.

Mother Nature is making her New Years Day arrival in style.

Southeast Michigan is under a winter weather advisory until Sunday morning.

2 to 5 inches of snow is forecasted for much of the state.

Snow is on the way to begin the new year.

Forecasters are calling for 3 to 5 inches of snow in the general southeast Michigan area beginning Saturday afternoon and evening.

High wind advisory in effect through Thursday; record warmth also forecasted

Gusts could reach 60 mph on Thursday ahead of a cold front in Michigan.

Another round of high winds is expected Thursday.

Along with it comes forecasted record warmth ahead of the cold front.

“We expect some gusts over 60 mph late tonight, mostly along Lake Michigan, but with some isolated gusts that strong possible inland on Thursday morning,” the National Weather Service said. “Impacts are expected to be similar to the last wind event with numerous power outages, but this time concentrated further north, from Muskegon to Big Rapids and north of there.”

45 mph to 50 mph gusts are forecasted for southeast Michigan.

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind advisory.

  • WHAT…Southwest winds 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
  • WHERE…Portions of southeast Michigan.
  • WHEN…From 4 AM to 4 PM EST Thursday.
  • IMPACTS…Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle. Secure outdoor objects.


Power outages reported throughout the area following gusty Saturday

Power outages are being reported throughout the area after a gusty Saturday has taken shape.

All of southeast Michigan is under a high wind warning through 8 p.m. Saturday.

Southwest 35 mph sustained winds with gusts to around 60 mph are expected all day Saturday.

“We anticipate high winds on Saturday and potential outages in Southeast Michigan. Our crews are ready to act quickly and safely to restore power, and we have called in additional support to speed this work. Please be safe and remember to stay at least 20 feet from any downed power lines and assume they are live and dangerous. Report any outage or downed line,” a statement from DTE said.

  • WHAT…Southwest winds around 30 mph with gusts of 50 to 60 mph possible. Winds will become west during the afternoon.
  • WHERE…All of southeast Michigan.
  • WHEN…From Saturday morning through Saturday evening.
  • IMPACTS…Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS…The peak winds are expected early Saturday afternoon.
