Last May, the Van Buren School Board approved making lacrosse an official varsity spring sport beginning with the 2018-19 school year. They also approved a cooperative agreement with Huron High School in New Boston, meaning students that attend Huron High School are eligible to play for the Belleville lacrosse team. Lacrosse has been a successful club sport at the youth, junior varsity and varsity levels since 2007. This decision by the school board will make lacrosse more available and affordable for students from Belleville and Huron to play the sport.
The Spring season will be coming up soon (March through June) and BLAA (Belleville Lacrosse Athletic Association), which is the entity running the Belleville/Huron youth programs, are looking for players that are interested in playing the spring season. Although Lacrosse has been around Belleville since 2007, it is still a relatively unknown sport so BLAA is offering some upcoming training sessions for both the HS and Youth players before the season starts.
High school players: January 16 – March 6 (Wednesdays)
Location: High Velocity in Canton
Time: 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Youth players: January 19 – March 2 (Saturdays)
Location: Pryde in Canton
Time: 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
If you have a student 3rd grade through 12th grade from Belleville or Huron that is interested in playing and wants to get into the sessions, please contact the BLAA board at Bellevillelaxboosters@gmail.com for sign-up or to answer any questions you may have.
BLAA is also having a bowling fundraiser at Lodge Lanes that is open to the public on Friday, January 11 at Lodge Lanes in Belleville with check-in starting at 6:30pm. Cost is $25.00/person which gets you two games of bowling, shoes, and one pizza per lane. There will be raffles, 50/50, and other prizes. All proceeds go to BLAA to support and fund our youth Lacrosse program. Space is limited so if you are interested in tickets, please contact us at Bellevillelaxboosters@gmail.com.

Heading to the game tonight? You might want to have an umbrella or poncho on hand.
The homecoming game at Arrowhead Stadium in New Boston might be a little bit wet at times.
The Huron Chiefs take on the Milan Big Reds with kickoff at 7 p.m., and it looks like there is a slight chance of rain in the forecast.
Friday begins with sunshine and beautiful fall-like weather.
As we head into the evening, clouds move in, according to forecasters, and there is a 22 percent chance of rain at 4 p.m., a 13 percent chance of rain at 7, and a 33 percent chance of rain by 8.
Temperatures will range from the low 60s to the high 50s throughout the evening.
Proceeding the game is the Homecoming parade, which starts at 5 p.m. and starts at the Huron soccer fields on Huron Drive Drive, heading south to Merriman Road and ending at Arrowhead Stadium.
Good luck to the Huron Chiefs varsity team, and to the 2018 homecoming court!

Congratulations to the Renton Junior High School 8th-grade football team, who finished this year undefeated.
The team faced the following opponents this year, winning all six games. Here are the scores: Belleville; 22-15, Jefferson; 26-13, Woodhaven; 22-12, Schumate (Carlson); 33-0, Wager (Airport); 43-12 and Lincoln Park; 20-0.
The team also went undefeated during their 2015 7th-grade season, finishing both seasons with a 12-0 record. That’s pretty impressive.
Parent and photographer Katy Reitz took multiple photos during their undefeated season. Check them out in the slideshow.
