It’s been a rough go for Huron Township Applefest the last few years.

After having to cancel the 2020 festival due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it looks like 2021 will also be a dud.

The cause: road construction.

According to the official Applefest website, the 2021 festival will be canceled due to an upcoming road construction project that will repair portions of road in downtown New Boston.

The decision to cancel the festival was unanimously decided on by the Applefest committee.

“Dear Applefest Patrons, It is with deep regret that Applefest 2021 must be cancelled,” a message on the Applefest website states.

“A long awaited road improvement project in the downtown area is expected to begin before October. This would make it impossible to go through with the Applefest this year. Refunds are in process for those who have already submitted their applications.”

In the years prior to the pandemic, the festival was impacted by the Waltz Road bridge that was closed at the time. The bridge closure caused a headache for festival goers, and also caused the cancellation of the popular Applefest parade.

It looks like we will have our sights set now on 2022, with hopes that it will be a better year for Applefest.

A message on the official Applefest website explains the reason for the cancellation of the 2021 festival.
