Below is a statement from Huron Township Department of Public Safety regarding an incident Saturday at Chapp’s Landing Travel Center on South Huron Road and I-275:
MEDIA RELEASE (RESPONSE TO STABBING INCIDENT):
Today at approximately 11:15a.m., The Huron Township Police Department responded to the Chapp’s Landing Travel Center located on South Huron Road in response to a 911 call received regarding a domestic dispute within a vehicle parked in the parking lot of the business.
Responding Officers were on the scene quickly. During the incident, a 48-year-old Canton Township man was located. The man was treated on the scene by Huron Valley Ambulance and the Huron Township Fire Department for a self-inflicted stab wound. The man was ultimately pronounced dead on the scene. The Huron Township Public Safety Team, along with the assistance of the Sumpter Township Police Department secured the crime scene while the Huron Township Detective Bureau and Evidence Technician Team investigated the incident.
More details will be provided in the next few days regarding this incident. We want to thank the business owners of Chapp’s Landing and Burger King for their patience and assistance throughout the investigation. It is unfortunate that this crime occurred in their parking lot, but it should be no reflection on either business.
Anyone who may have witnessed this incident, but has not yet spoken to investigators is asked to contact the Huron Township Police Department Detective Bureau at 734-753-4400.
