Winds of change: following freeze warnings, big warmup in the works for Michigan

A big warmup is in the works and will reach Michigan by this weekend.

Let’s start with today though — Monday, May 11 — there’s a freeze warning in effect for southeast Michigan.

Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 27 degrees are expected through Tuesday morning. A freeze warning is also likely to be issued for Wednesday morning, as well.

If you haven’t already, take steps now to protect tender plants and outdoor plumbing from the cold.

Ok, now for the good news: by this weekend, temps take a turn for the better. Temps could flirt with 70 degrees by the weekend. However, with the warmth comes and active rain pattern, so expect some warm, but wet days ahead.

There is an even higher chance of warmer than average temps in the later part of the next two weeks, through May 24. That could make for a very warm Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Over the next two weeks, there could be days well in the 70s, and possibly some days flirting with 80 degrees.
