A recently launched program at Detroit Metro Airport that allows visitors without air travel tickets the ability to enter the post-security side of the McNamara and North terminals has been extended.

Called “DTW Destination Pass,” the program lets those who are not flying enjoy amenities of the airport, surprise an arriving traveler, or spend extra time with a loved one who is departing.

Airport officials say there is no end date set for the program at this time.

“We’ve received a tremendous response to the DTW Destination Pass program,” said WCAA CEO Chad Newton. “We understand that our facility is more than just an airport—it is a place where memories are made. One participant of the program shared with us that she was able to bring her 3-year-old nephew to the airport to greet his parents and see airplanes for the first time. He loved it! It is a pleasure to offer everyone a chance to experience DTW and create memories that will last a lifetime.”

Those wishing to participate in the DTW Destination Pass program must still apply for a pass through the airport’s website the day before their planned visit.

Applicants will receive an email notification advising of their approval status.

If approved, applicants will receive detailed instructions electronically.

All participants must submit to the same security regulations as passengers boarding an aircraft.

“The DTW Destination Pass program is averaging more than 60 applicants a day,” said WCAA Security Chief Debra Sieg. “The information we’ve received from participant surveys indicates that most approved applicants utilized the program to meet someone who was arriving at or departing from the airport. However, some wanted to watch planes or visit one of our dining or retail options.”

The DTW Destination Pass program is limited to 75 visitor passes per day. Passes can be used from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

Additional information on the program, application process and requirements can be found at metroairport.com/about-us/dtw-destination-pass.
