The Huron area will have a new option for ice cream and food starting this weekend.

The Family Fridge Ice Cream and Eatery, a locally owned establishment, will offer soft serve ice cream and several different food options at the corner of Waltz and South Huron Roads.

The business, located at 22984 Waltz Road, is owned by Huron residents Duane and Lisa Mendenhall, and is in the former American Dairy Treats building.

The business’s first day open will be Friday, but on Saturday, they will celebrate their grand opening by offering free baby cones for kids under 10, and gift card raffles.

Business hours are 11:30 a.m. — 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11:30 a.m. — 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 3:30 p.m. — 8 p.m. on Sunday.

At 36427 Shook Rd. on the corner between the New Boston RTM and across Sibley Rd. HiLines, a neglected dirty matted grand pyrenees named Chanel with a phone number of 734-883-4221 on its collar is tied to a fence 24-7 in the mud and snow behind a beige/yellow structure at the csx railroad tracks a ‘for sale’ semi front end parked in front of the corner the dog is in). He has a frozen water pail and an uninsulated igloo sometimes unreachable from his tethering.
I have seen this go on in all weather day and night for over 2 years. My coworkers and me @csx go by him several times a day/night. We are appalled the police that have been contacted many times in huron township have not done something to the cruel owner(s). We have offered $ for the dog upwards of $800 and have given Chanel food and bones and even a dogbed that is nowhere to be seen since delivered because we feel so sorry for him. No dog should have to suffer freezing temperatures without adequate shelter and water, basic attention and care. It has been below freezing the last couple of weeks and I have watched him alone, tied up in negative 25 realfeel temperatures in previous winters. UNACCEPTABLE! There are laws for a reason.
‘CHAINED’ which is an organization in Michigan had gone several times in the last few weeks to the fence where the dog is tethered, and offered a heated water bowl and some straw and other things and education for the owner via telephone and in person on Saturday November 16 with a translator in case the thought to be middle eastern descent man did not understand that they are trying to help for free but to no avail. The owner threatened the ‘CHAINED’ organizer Gina and her husband AND WOULD NOT LET THE DOG HAVE ANY STRAW. IT IS AGAINST MICHIGAN LAW to deny an animal/pet adequate protection from freezing and IT IS CRUEL TO KEEP HIM TIED UP ALWAYS 24-7! How is Huron township not addressing this atrocity??
I dont know why there is no animal control! This dog needs help. Please address this ASAP if at all possible.
