After David Thompson was announced as the new principal at Brown Elementary last week, the district said Monday that he has backed out of the position just days after he was approved at an open school board meeting.
In a letter to the community, Supt. Donovan Rowe said that Thompson called the district office on Friday to inform them that he no longer planned to take the position.
Thompson’s decision comes after he signed a contract and was approved as the new principal during the Aug. 20 school board meeting.
Rowe said that the district will hire an interim principal who has decades of experience in school administration, who will lead the school during the district’s search for a new permanent principal.
