TADPOLES: WAITING FOR WINGS!

This monthly nature series for young children, is themed from books by author Lois Ehlert.
This month’s theme is based off the “Waiting for Wings” book. Where do butterflies come from? How are they born?
What do they eat? We will learn about the lifecycle of a butterfly and how it emerges to dazzle the world with its vibrant beauty.

TURTLE WALK-N-TALK

Oakwoods Metropark Nature Center, Flat Rock
They may not be the fastest critters on earth, but they are mighty resourceful. Join us for a walk in the woods
as we look to get some hands-on experience with these radical reptiles. Whether it is the beautiful Box Turtle,
the sassy Snapping Turtle, or the petite Painted Turtle, we will be on the lookout for whomever shows their shell.

CASTAWAY CRITTERS

NATURE’S PAINT BRUSH

Fun for the whole family, this program consists of a short hike to gather our “paintbrushes”. You don’t always
need a trip to the store to make great art. Join us as we explore how to make simple yet fun paintings, with
natural elements sourced from Lake Erie Metropark nature trails.

CRAFTY CRITTERS WORKSHOP: THE “SEEDY” PART OF NATURE

Then we will make a “seed bomb” that we can throw to encourage wildflowers to grow.

Kids will love this nature camp focused on the plants & animals of Oakwoods Metropark. From the fields and prairies,
to the deer and rabbits, we will be covering it all during this 2-day camp. Dress for the weather, pack your lunch, and

DROP-IN PELLET DISSECTING DAY
Saturday, June 22nd at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Oakwoods Metropark Nature Center, Flat Rock
Stop in anytime between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to learn about owls, owl pellets, and get your very own owl pellet dissection kit.
Our staff will help you work through the pellet to discover what the owl had for lunch, and we will attempt to put the skeleton
of the animal back together.
Cost: $5 per pellet

SUMMER KICK-OFF WALK

KNITTING IN NATURE: SHARING STITCHES

From beginner to expert, let’s get together, relax, knit, crochet, teach and learn.
Have a cup of coffee, a treat or two and make some new friends. This is not a class
on knitting or crocheting. This is a monthly gathering of people who love to knit and
crochet and want to “share stitches”.

RARE FARE

CANOE TOURS

Join us for a canoe tour! Aboard our 34-foot replica of a historic Voyageur canoe we will explore the Huron River.
As we paddle through marshes we will look for muskrats, deer and other animals that live along the river!

MUSEUM MISCELLANEOUS

The Marshlands Museum has over two thousand items in its collection. Guided by an Interpreter,
this program series gives visitors a chance to investigate in detail some of the rarely seen items from
the backroom. If you have ever wondered what we have, now is your chance to find out!
