Huron Township police posted on social media Saturday morning a warning for drivers to be vigilant following a possible fake police officer report in a nearby community.
Here is the statement from police:
“This post was posted on local social media sites this morning. The Brownstown Police Department received a report regarding this situation this morning. They are investigating the incident. Although Huron Township has not received any similar incidents, it is obviously very close to our community and something that we want everyone to be aware of. Although stated to be an Escalade, further investigation indicates it may be any type of dark SUV. If an unmarked SUV attempts to stop you, please pull into a lighted area and call 911 to verify. Huron Township Officers will be in full uniform.
It also appears there were similar incidents in Brooklyn, MI recently. We are working closely with the Brownstown Police Department and will keep you updated as we receive information.
Please be vigilant, aware of your surroundings, and take care of each other.”
