Huron police officer Ahmed Kassem was commended Wednesday for his attempt at saving a man’s life after a 911 call reported he was not breathing.

Kassem responded to the 28000 block of Charlemagne on Jan. 14 after a call came into 911 saying a man at the address was not breathing and was unresponsive.

Kassem attempted to save the man’s life using CPR until paramedics arrived, but the man was later pronounced dead at the scene.

On Jan. 15, the man’s son emailed Police Chief Everette Robbins and thanked Kassem for not only trying to save his father’s life, but for showing compassion during the incident.

“He stayed with my entire family and did his best to support us,” the son said to Robbins in an email.

The son added: “I’ve never in my life had a better experience with a police officer.”

Robbins went on to thank Kassem for his professionalism and outstanding work.
