Robin Belisle, artist at Faux Couture finishing in New Boston, is hosting a paint-a-thon for charity at the Novi Home Show this weekend.
As a long-time exhibitor, Belisle has demonstrated unique painting techniques at the home show for the past eight years.
This year, Belisle decided to use her talents by featuring a furniture paint-a-thon throughout the show.
The event will benefit Humble Design, a nonprofit that serves families and veterans emerging from homelessness by transforming an empty house or apartment into a home.
“My family routinely does charity work and it seemed like it was time to do something big with the skills God gave me. Humble Design is the perfect fit as our recipient,” Belisle said. “They will loan us 100 pieces of donated furniture and we will repaint them into new and beautiful versions of their previous look. Humble Design will use all returned items to furnish homes around the area.”
Attendees can purchase some of the artwork that is created on the spot, with all proceeds going to charity.
“If a particular item catches the eye of an event attendee, it will be possible to purchase some of these items with immediate pick up with every dollar going back to Humble Design,” Belisle added.
The items that are donated to Humble Design usually arrive in bad shape but are given new life.
“Much of the furniture we receive in our donations is scratched, worn, and dated,” said Lisa Crawford, Humble Design development manager in Metro Detroit. “Having these items repainted turns them into focal points in a room, shifting from furnishing with castoffs to gifting our clients something to treasure.”
The event this year is a collaborative effort of volunteers with support from The Novi Home Show exhibitors, Home Depot, and Sherwin-Williams.
In addition to the paint-a-thon event, attendees can enter to win a kitchen reorganization, receive a free consultation from an interior designer, and check out unique interior designer vignettes.
The Novi Home Show runs Jan. 25 through 27 and is at the Suburban Collection Showplace.
Show hours are Friday 2 – 8 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
