Last May, the Van Buren School Board approved making lacrosse an official varsity spring sport beginning with the 2018-19 school year. They also approved a cooperative agreement with Huron High School in New Boston, meaning students that attend Huron High School are eligible to play for the Belleville lacrosse team. Lacrosse has been a successful club sport at the youth, junior varsity and varsity levels since 2007. This decision by the school board will make lacrosse more available and affordable for students from Belleville and Huron to play the sport.
The Spring season will be coming up soon (March through June) and BLAA (Belleville Lacrosse Athletic Association), which is the entity running the Belleville/Huron youth programs, are looking for players that are interested in playing the spring season. Although Lacrosse has been around Belleville since 2007, it is still a relatively unknown sport so BLAA is offering some upcoming training sessions for both the HS and Youth players before the season starts.

High school players: January 16 – March 6 (Wednesdays)
Location: High Velocity in Canton
Time: 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Youth players: January 19 – March 2 (Saturdays)
Location: Pryde in Canton
Time: 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

BLAA is also having a bowling fundraiser at Lodge Lanes that is open to the public on Friday, January 11 at Lodge Lanes in Belleville with check-in starting at 6:30pm. Cost is $25.00/person which gets you two games of bowling, shoes, and one pizza per lane. There will be raffles, 50/50, and other prizes. All proceeds go to BLAA to support and fund our youth Lacrosse program. Space is limited so if you are interested in tickets, please contact us at Bellevillelaxboosters@gmail.com.
