Department of Public Safety introduces ‘internet exchange safe zone’

The Huron Township Department of Public Safety is now offering an “Internet Exchange Safe Zone” in the police department’s outer lobby area located at 36500 South Huron Road. We encourage our residents that are buying or selling products from the internet, newspaper or otherwise are welcome to use this location as the exchange location. Signs are posted in the lobby area marking the area that is under video surveillance. This is to discourage persons that may attempt to rob a buyer or seller upon meeting. If the person you are dealing with is not comfortable with meeting in the Internet Safe Zone the police department advises to cancel the transaction.

“The safety of our residents is our number one concern. The number of incidents where people are assaulted during internet transactions throughout the nation are alarming. We hope this will be a service our residents will use,” said Everette Robbins, director of public safety.
