The Huron Junior Wrestling Club will be hosting a local downriver wrestling tournament, “The Last Man Standing” tournament, Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Huron High School. This year’s event, like last year, has the purpose of helping a wonderful family with the financial burden that comes along with the disease of cancer. Huron Junior Chief’s Wrestling Club in collaboration with the UAW and Ford Motor Company will host the event and contribute toward honoree, 19-year-old Alec Antonian, for this year’s tournament.

Alec Antonian is a young man facing his eight year, in his battle with an inoperable glioblastoma brain tumor. Alec was first diagnosed on October 29, 2009 at the age of 12, after being hit in the head during a soccer game. Alec was unresponsive and in a coma for a week. Within the first five years of his diagnosis, he underwent several different types of chemotherapies and radiation therapy. The treatments had to be stopped prematurely due to them damaging his liver and pancreas. Over the past eight years, Alec has endured several complications due to the side effects of the different medications and treatments. Some of his complications include drop foot (which he now wears a brace for), diabetes, obstructive/restrictive lung disease, adrenal insufficiency, small holes in the tissues of his nose, and mental and physical delays among other issues. His monthly regiment now includes several doctors’ visits to specialists and quarterly MRIs’ to check the progression of his tumor. There is currently no cure for this type of brain tumor. Although Alec and his mother, Robin, are strong and live in hope every day, the financial burden does become very taxing.

The Huron Junior Chiefs Wrestling Club has made its mission to help in the fight against cancer by offering the proceeds of the tournament to a well deserving family battling this long devastating disease. Alec’s positive attitude and his determination to never give up, align with the clubs vision for their wrestlers. This year, we are honored to be able to help Alec and his mother.

Please join us for a day of excitement as local wrestlers battle to be the “Last Man Standing.”

The winner will receive a one of a kind singlet representing the cause in which the honoree battles. Organizations or individuals wishing to contribute can do so tax free using the tax ID number 47-4551530.
