After a long strength of relatively mild temperatures, winter weather returns Monday night into Tuesday.

By Tuesday morning, a fresh coating of snow will be on the ground, the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac says.

An Alberta clipper will track into the region tonight and bring widespread light snow to lower Michigan.

A general 2 to 3 inches of snow is expected from late this evening into Tuesday morning, with the better chance of 3 or slightly more inches of snow falling along and south of the M-59 corridor, as the low pressure system angles southeastward to western Lake Erie by Tuesday morning.

Expect slow travel during the Tuesday morning commute.
