No-one was injured during a house fire that occurred in the 29000 block of Grix Road on Sunday, Jan. 8.
Director of Public Safety Everette Robbins says the Huron Township Fire Department arrived at the two-story home to find smoke billowing out of the rear side.
The family and pets living at the residence were able to make it out safely.
“I want to thank the Chief Hinojosa and the 15 men and women of our Fire Department along with Firefighters from Flat Rock and Ash Townships for their hard work battling not only a structure fire, but battling frigid temperatures as well. On days that most people don’t want to leave their homes because of the weather, these great men and women don’t hesitate; my hat is off to them,” Robbins said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The homeowner did say that the family was using a propane Torpedo heater in the crawl space of the home to thaw out frozen pipes.
Foul play is not suspected.
The American Red Cross responded and is currently assisting the family.
“Our thoughts are with the family that lost a lot in this fire. Thankfully, all of them made it out of the house safely. We look forward in helping them any way we can moving forward,” Robbins said.
