State Rep. Darrin Camilleri (D-Brownstown Township) took the oath of office to join the 99th Legislature in a ceremony held Tuesday night at the Brownstown Community Center. Roughly 200 people were in attendance when Camilleri took the oath of office from Michigan Supreme Court Justice Bridget Mary McCormack.

“It’s such an immense honor to take the oath of office of state representative, especially with my hand on my great-uncle’s Bible,” Camilleri said. “I am eagerly looking forward to starting my work in the Michigan House next month.”

Members of the community also took part in the ceremony. Huron High School student Nelly Myshock sang the national anthem, and Girl Scout Troop 75653 from Bates Elementary School in Woodhaven led the Pledge of Allegiance. Pastor Jack Eggleston, a Trenton resident and formerly of St. Phillip Lutheran Church, delivered the invocation. After Camilleri took the oath, fellow state Reps. Erika Geiss (D-Taylor) and Frank Liberati (D-Allen Park) presented him with his legislator pin.

“I’d like to thank everyone who attended the swearing-in ceremony. Being surrounded by friends, family and, now, colleagues made the event even more special,” Camilleri said. “Rest assured I will be in the community as often as possible to ensure I am representing the 23rd District to the best of my ability.”
