Huron High School student Melissa Paduk, 16, was selected in June to represent Great Lakes State at the upcoming 2016 Miss American Junior Teen Pageant in Florida.
As the Miss Great Lakes State Junior Teen, Paduk will be attending the National Pageant for her age group at Walt Disney World over Thanksgiving week in November.
She will compete for the National Pageant title of Miss American Junior Teen, and for thousands of dollars in cash awards, prizes and scholarships.
Melissa Paduk is the daughter of Kevin and Patty Paduk, who live in New Boston. After high school, Melissa hopes to attend Michigan State’s veterinarian program.
Nationwide, state winners and state pageant finalists will compete in the 33rd annual national scholarship competition organized by American Coed Pageants, Inc.
Some of the contests held during the competition include, among others, academic achievement, community service, modeling, and acting. Additionally, there will also be a National Pageant Winner’s contest.
According to American Coed Pageants, Inc., they hold state pageants annually for the purpose of recognizeing and rewarding outstanding young women between the ages of three and 23, for their past and present accomplishments and to encourage them to set and achieve high goals for the future.
