Hello Huron Township residents. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce
myself. My name is Kathlene Van Wasshnova and I am your present Huron Charter
Township Clerk. I was appointed to be your Clerk, in July, 2011 and then elected as the
Township Clerk in November, 2012. I am seeking re-election in November, 2016. I
have resided in Huron Charter Township for 38 years. My late husband and I raised our
two daughters in Huron Township and they attended Huron Township public schools. I
also have grandchildren in the township, with one grandson graduating in June.
I completed the Michigan Municipal Clerk Institute having obtained my Certified
Michigan Municipal Clerk certification. One of my many statutory duties as your Clerk
is keeping all Township records safe and organized, which is one of my main priorities. I
streamlined the Township filing system by reorganizing all Township records and files
which has allowed consistent access to my staff as well as safeguarding them from any
potential harm. The Voting Precincts have been consolidated within the community with
the elimination of two precincts at a substantial savings. Board packets for the BOT
received an upgrade in the technological sense.
I am committed to keep our Township fiscally responsible, doing all that is possible to
live within the means of the tax dollars entrusted to the local government. I am also
committed to keeping our residents safe and have all of the necessary services for their
well-being. There is a fine line keeping affordable public services when tax increases
have been voted down by the majority of the registered voters. It is also my desire to see
the downtown area of New Boston receive a much needed face lift, attracting small
businesses to our lovely community.
In closing, I would like to say that I am very conscientious and dependable, always
striving to do my best for all of the residents. I am in the Clerk’s office five days a week
and would like you to know that if you have any questions or concerns about anything
please call or stop in by the Clerk’s office and I will be happy to assist you in any way I
Kathlene L. Van Wasshnova
