My name is Darrin Camilleri, and I’m a Democrat running to be Downriver’s next state representative. I grew up and live in Brownstown, and I’m a high school social studies teacher in Detroit. I serve on my township’s Parks and Recreation Commission, and I first learned about politics and public service by working on constituent casework in Congressman John Dingell’s district office.
As a teacher and as the son and grandson of union autoworkers, I understand the challenges that working families face because I live them every day. And coming from a family of immigrants, I know that Michigan can be a place of promise and possibility for many seeking to build their lives here. But we need to do more to ensure that Downriver families can get a fair shot at opportunity and achieving the Michigan Dream.
For the past six years, Republicans in Lansing have put profit over people. We need our next State Representative to bring the voices of Downriver’s working families to Lansing to fight for our community’s stories of struggle and success.
Fundamentally, my campaign has four priorities:
- Strengthen Downriver’s economy, ensuring that middle-class jobs come here to stay
- Improve the education system across our state, guaranteeing that all of our students have access to the opportunities they deserve
- Invest in our roads, bridges, and natural resources to build a Michigan where our families and businesses can stay and succeed
- Bring transparency to government to renew the promise of a representative you can believe in and a state government you can trust
I’ve worked throughout my life on these issues, and I’m ready to lead and advocate for change in Lansing.
From the beginning, our campaign has been about our community, our people, and how we can build a better Michigan together. If you want to talk more about the issues facing Downriver and Michigan, my door is always open and my phone is always on. And that is a promise that goes well beyond this campaign.
I hope to connect with you soon, hear your story, and earn your support for state representative this August and November.
