About 25 kids and a handful of parents biked to Miller Elementary School in New Boston Wednesday to celebrate “Bike to School Day 2016.”
“Overall, I’d consider the event a success and plan to do it again next year,” said Mike Scannell, event organizer and vice president of the Downriver Cycling Club.
Scannell said that they had good weather in the morning, but got hit with some rain in the afternoon.
“The majority of the kids toughed it out and rode home, despite the rain.”
“One kid even wanted to ride past his house all the way back to the beginning of the route despite the rain!”
Scannell thanked the Huron Township Police Department for helping escort the group safely to and from school. He also expressed appreciation to Roll Models Bike Shop in Allen Park and to Miller Elementary for helping sponsor and advertise the event.
