The third annual Jimmy Williams Memorial Run will be held Saturday, May 7 this year at Willow Metro Park in New Boston.

The 5K run and walk is held in honor of Jimmy Williams, an honor student and exceptional football player at Huron High School who died in a car crash on Nov. 18, 2012 while he was traveling with his family through South Carolina on vacation.

All proceeds from the race will benefit the Jimmy Williams Memorial Scholarship, which will be rewarded to deserving Huron High School Seniors who have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, will be attending college or a trade school in the fall of 2016, must be a Huron High School athlete and has demonstrated leadership abilities by participating in a club or community service.

A separate panel will rate the applicants who will receive the scholarship.

The paved course winds runners and walkers through scenic Willow Metro Park and along the Huron River.

The race begins at 10 a.m. near the pool/amphitheater area, with an awards ceremony immediately following at 11 a.m.
