Huron Township made the list of the top safest cities in Michigan, according to the website BackgroundChecks.org.
Coming in at 42 out of 50, the website — which refers to itself as the internet’s premier resource and database for everything related to public records — says that the violent crime rate in Huron is 159, and the chance of being involved in a property crime is just 1.5%.
Background Checks says that rates are normalized per 100,000 residents with the state average being 427 for violent crime and 2,044 for property crime.
Other southeast Michigan communities made the list, with Grosse Ile coming in at number one, Riverview at 19, Trenton at 27 and Wyandotte at 34.
