A brand new Dollar General store will be setting up shop in New Boston in the near future, according to Huron Township officials.

John Enos, community development director, said that the new store will be built near the intersection of Pennsylvania Road and Huron River Drive.

“We have been working with the developer and applicant for several months,” said Enos.

“We want to make sure that this first commercial project along this route is something that we can point to for future projects in terms of landscaping, brick facade and nice architectural detail.”

Enos said that the final decision will be put in front of the Planning Commission during an upcoming February meeting, and he expects the project to be approved.

According to their website, Dollar General, which has multiple locations in southeast Michigan, has more than 12,000 stores in 43 states and is America’s largest small-box discount retailer by sales.

The company, which celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2014, sells products from many name brands, including Clorox, Energizer, Procter & Gamble, Hanes, Coca-Cola, Mars, Unilever, Nestle, Kimberly-Clark, Kellogg’s, General Mills, and PepsiCo., their website states.

As a resident I must say this is disappointing. I would hope that if we must have chain stores opened in our community that they would at least be of higher quality than Dollar General.

That is a disaster and will definitely not add any benefit to this area. Travel South on Huron River Road and look at the changes and none are for the better. It is capped off when you get to downtown NB which other than the professional buildings that are maintained, you have businesses that have failed and have been transformed into residential apartments that are dumps!
This business does not indicative of the direction the residents of NB would like to proceed. North Huron Twp and New Boston are getting dumped on with this type of trash business.

When the Dollar General was opening in Carleton. I expressed concerns because I lived there at the time. The manager said she was going to be very active in the community and wanted it to be known as a welcoming store. This ended up not being the case and the store is an eyesore in Carleton, just as it will be in New Boston. Just brings a nuisance…. And their ugly ass sign.

This is unbelievable, not only will this store bring in trashy people, but just like other nearby dollar general stores, it will go under and leave our town with another unwanted empty building where we have beautiful wildlife. Do not approve this request please, the citizens of New Boston

for the Carleton DG, it has brought alot of business there. For everyone in New Boston, upset about this… the down town (village of New Boston ) is a crap hole. no businesses survive there. the citizens do not care about their New Boston town.
