Karate master turned pastor to launch new church in Huron High School

What if Ethan Hunt from Mission Impossible were your church pastor? That’s the question that Southpoint Church has been asking in a promotional video making the rounds of Facebook. They claim they have the next best thing as they prepare to open the church’s third campus this Sunday, Nov. 8, in Huron High School, 32044 Huron River Drive, New Boston.

world, with a background as a US Marine, a High Risk Security Operations Certified, a commercial jet pilot, motocross champion, and race car driver.

Lead Minister Brett Kays said, “Rich is a great guy who has had lots of success in the business and military worlds, even training with same karate instructors as Chuck Norris. He’s taught several students who have won international championships. But Rich sensed God’s calling to do something even more significant through ministry. After a period of church leadership development, he’s been preparing to launch this new church along with his wife, Stacy. She went through a similar experience by leaving her career as a public school teacher in the Gibraltar district to serve as Children’s Director for Southpoint.” Both husband and wife were ordained together into ministry earlier this year.

As “one church in multiple locations” Southpoint is better able to carry out its stated mission by expanding to “win Downriver to Christ” by reaching people in the southwestern suburbs of Downriver, in addition to its locations in Trenton and Allen Park. All three campuses  share the same mission, leadership, service programming, and resources.

Collins notes that, “My family lives in Huron Township, so we’re excited to bring the Southpoint experience here too. Southpoint’s known for engaging topics, great music,  fun kids’ programming, and ‘come as you are’ atmosphere.”

Services at the new campus will be held Sundays at 10:00 a.m.  To learn more about Southpoint Church, visit them online at www.southpointccc.com or call the church office at (734) 675-7575.
