Get your running shoes ready – the second annual Jimmy Williams Memorial Run is gearing up and preparing for another successful athletic and fundraising event.
The run, which is scheduled for Sunday, April 26, 2015 from 10:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m., is held in honor of former Huron High School Junior Jimmy Williams.
Williams died in a car crash on Nov. 18, 2012 while he was traveling with his family through South Carolina on vacation.
A star athlete at Huron High School, Williams participated as a safety on the Huron Chiefs football team, leading the team for two straight seasons in number of tackles. He was also an honor student at the school.
Runners and walkers can sign up for the memorial run and get different pricing information by visiting the event’s run signup webpage.
The 5K portion of the race costs $25, while the 10K race costs $35. Price rates for both runs increases by $10 after April 5.
If traditional paper forms are preferred, please see below for official paperwork in PDF form. Registration details and fees can also be viewed on the run’s official webpage.
Last year, approximately $8000 was raised from sponsors, participant’s registration fees and from those who couldn’t make it to the event but wanted to donate.
All proceeds minus operating costs will go to the scholarship fund in Williams’ name, which will be awarded to deserving Huron High School Seniors.
The Jimmy Williams Memorial Scholarship Criteria calls for qualifying seniors to have a grade point average of 3.0 equivalent or higher, will attend a college or trade school in the fall of 2015, must have participated as a Huron High School athlete during the 2014-2015 school year and has demonstrated leadership abilities by being in a club or participating in community service.
Sponsors are still needed for the event. If interested, see the sponsorship form link below. For more information, contact Run Coordinator Keith Becki at email@example.com.
